Introduction

A very delicate, soft textured dish made as a fasting food. As children we never fasted but if mum said, I 've made khichadi... we all happily fasted that day to eat it this for breakfast and lunch. Ingredients

2 cups Sego soaked overnight (take care not to over soak them by adding more water)
1 cup peanuts roasted and peeled and grinded
1 large potato peeled and cubed
    1 tspn sugar
3-4 chillies finely chopped or as per the required hotness
    1 lemon juice
    2 tbsp coriander leaves
2 tbsp grated fresh coconut or desiccated coconut powder
4 tbsp pure ghee or refined oil
    1 tspn cumin seeds
    Salt

Tips

Also tastes good with a dollop of yoghurt

Directions

- In a deep bottomed pan heat the oil
- Let the cumin seeds splutter
- Saute the green chillies
- Add the potatoes and salt. Close the lid and allow the potatoes to cook
- Meanwhile mix the grounded roasted peanuts, grated coconut and sugar with the soaked segos
- Add this to the cooked potatoes in the pan
- Mix and let it cook while you stir so that the sego doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan for aroun 30 mins. Sprinkle the lemon juice and then the coconut.
- Close the lid and let the spices infuse
-Serve hot.
