Introduction
I usually add a can of tomatoes and meat to a jar of spaghetti sauce, along with a few spices to freshen it up. For calorie calculation, I used a jar of sauce that had 60 calories in 1/2 cup and 3 cups in the jar. Ingredients
-
1 Jar Spaghetti sauce
1 lb. 93 percent lean ground beef
2 cloves garlic, minced
5 leaves fresh basil (or 1 tsp. dried)
1 Can crushed or diced tomatoes
1 tsp fennel or anise seed (ground)
Directions
Brown ground beef in a medium saucepan. Add garlic while browning. Drain all fat that remains in pan after cooking. Add entire jar of spaghetti sauce and can of tomatoes to the meat mixture. Add basil and fennel. If you have fresh tomatoes, you can peel them and add them instead of the canned. Cook about 10 more minutes and serve over noodles (not included in calorie count). Tastes like homemade for about 1/2 the effort.
