Introduction

Crunchy. Crunchy. Pick a dressing*. Pick a nut. Add some heat.

The almonds and the NEWMAN'S OWN dressing* were leftovers from the McDonald's asian salads.
(I'm hooked on the McD asian salad. It's great just the way it comes with their chicken glaze. )

I'll eat this whole recipe as one serving--salt-wise, it's not so good--this could/should be a side dish for two.

Ingredients

6 oz broccoli slaw plain or w/carrot only

10.6 g (3/8 oz) almonds sliced & toasted BLUE DIAMOND, optional

1.5 oz sesame ginger NEWMAN'S OWN low fat dressing*

(optional hot peppers flake or paste to taste)

Directions

Mix together the dressing, broccoli slaw** and the pepper.

Let the slaw marinade 10 minutes (optional).
FYI: marinade too long (hours or overnight) and the broccoli makes the dressing watery and not as flavorful.

Just before serving add the almonds.

Excellent low-fat dressings*:
sesame ginger PAUL NEWMAN'S OWN (most brands)
poppyseed dressing & 10-marinade DREW'S (haven't tried another brand)

Not so good low-fat dressings*:
italian
oil & vinegar
southwest

* All dressings tried are egg-free.

** Can't find broccoli slaw sometimes: used florets and baby carrots.

Note: broccoli SLAW and broccoli COLE SLAW are different. The COLE slaw contains cabbage; cabbage seems to be TOO BITTER for this dressing.

    Incredible!
I made this following the recipe and it was wonderful. Then I found I had a bottle of Marzzetti's cole slaw dressing in fridge and tried it with that and it too was delicious. Thank you for sharing. It is another easy way to eat veggies. - 6/9/08
