Introduction

The oil in this recipe is approx, since the only thing it is used for is to fry the bread in. I measured how much I put in the pan and only had approx 1/2 c missing at the end, so that is all I included in the recipe for the sake of the nutritional info. These are great sprinkled with cinnamon & sugar as elephant ears, eaten plain, or top with your favorite sandwich toppings. Ingredients

    2.5 c whole wheat flour
    2 tbsp sugar
    2 tsp salt
    2 tsp baking soda
    1 1/3 c warm water
    vegetable (soybean) oil

Directions

Mix dry ingredients with water in mixing bowl until doughy, then knead for a few minutes. Form into 12 small balls and roll flat. Place in hot oil and fry approx 1 minute on each side. Remove and place on paper towel to remove excess oil.
