Introduction

I like to use the crockpot but this can easily be cooked on stovetop. I like to use the crockpot but this can easily be cooked on stovetop.
Number of Servings: 10

Ingredients

    1 pound white beans
    8 ounces ham in small chunks
    1/2 cup chopped onion
    1/2 cup chopped celery
    1/2 cup sliced carrots
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
    6 cups water *
    1 teaspoon salt

    The 6 cups water is in addition to what it takes to cover beans in first part of directions.

Tips

I use 1 teaspoon salt out of concern for sodium; add salt to taste if sodium is not an issue for you. Also Salt Sense can be used.


Directions

Wash and sort beans. Cover the beans with water, bring to a boil, turn off heat, and let stand covered for an hour. Put the beans (with liquid) in crockpot with the other ingredients including the additional six cups water. Cook until beans are tender.
