Ingredients

1 c. uncooked rolled oats
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1 t. vanilla
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
Brown Sugar Icing:
1 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 c. butter
1 t. vanilla
1/4 c. water
Directions
Preheat oven to 350.
1. In a shallow bowl, soak rolled oats in boiling water for 20 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, measure butter and sugars into beater bowl, beating until light. Beat until eggs and vanilla, sift flour with soda and spices.
3. By this time, the oats will be soaked and cool. Fold oats into creamed mixture.
4. Sift flour mixture over and fold in . Bake in a buttered 9 x 12 pan at 350 for 40 - 50 minutes.
5. Cool.
6. Top with brown sugar icing.

1. Melt butter in a medium saucepan.
2. Add remainder of ingredients. Stir continually over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.
3. Spread on cake and allow to harden for at least one hour.
Makes 24 slices.
