Introduction

This is the basic receipe for most lentils. Mah Masur dal, Channa Dal, toor dal etc. In the yellow dals put in a little less garam masala, other wise the dal will go brown.

Ingredients

    Garam Masala is available from all Indian grocery shops

Directions

1. Dice Onion, tomato, chillies, garlic and ginger.
2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker on low heat.
3. Add cumin seed and wait till it starts to sizzle.
4. Add diced onion and chillies.
5. Fry stirring at regular intervals.
6. Add garlic and ginger.
7. Fry till golden brown
8. Add tomatoes and stir till all mushed up
9. Add dry spices and stir
10. Add a little water and stir.
11. leave till the water dries
12. Add washed lentils
13. Add water.
14 Turn the heat to high and close pressure cooker
15. Cook till the whistle blows
16. Turn heat to very low and leave for approx 10 mts.
17. Wait till the pressure cooker is ready to be opened. Taste and adjust spices to suit.
