Introduction

Great alternative to store bought and you save tons of $$ Great alternative to store bought and you save tons of $$
Number of Servings: 24

Ingredients

    2 quarts skim milk
    2 cups powdered milk (dry)
4oz cup of plain yogurt (I use Brown Cow brand)

Directions

Heat milk to 180* then cool to 120*. (This kills any thing in the milk so that only the yogurt cultures grow.) Wisk in Yogurt and powdered milk, put in to canning jars. Fill hard side cooler with hotest tap water you can and emerse jars. Let sit for 24hours and the refrigerate. (I put my cooler in the bathtub to sit over night.) The longer it sits the thicker it gets that is why you want to culture it for 24hours. Take out 1/4 cup to use again as your next starter.

Add vanilla and sweetener of choice and ENJOY!

The yogurt turned out great. I thickened the yogurt by putting in a paper towel lined strainer and letting the whey leach out. Unfortunately, there is no serving size given, so I have no accurate nutritional information. I'll weigh the next batch before we start feasting, for a starting point. - 3/4/10
