Not a lot of recipes on this site can be made as is; just a little tweak: low-sodium beef broth -- so much healthier. The caramelized onions is a great suggestion. 8-) Submitted by:

I make a version of this from time to time but caramel yes onions are essential. I have used vegetable broth and a splash of tamari and Worcester sauce. The biggest calorie boondoggle is the cheese...my serving has an amount that adds up for me. My husband's is more generous. Submitted by:
