For 317 calories, this is a keeper! Certainly filling - healthy comfort food! I served over 1/2 c brown rice and let the family add shredded cheese and sour cream as Laurynmadsen did. I did use a can of diced tomatoes instead of sauce & added my own SW seasoning (vs Ms Dash). So good! - 9/28/08

Absolutely delicious! I've shared it with friends and family. I also made extra brown rice and used the Glad snack-size bags (fits one cup servings) for storage (freezer and frig), That has made it be easy to grab bags for heating leftovers. I will make for my parents soon. Thanks! - 7/17/09

This has become a real husband pleaser in my household. I substitute crushed tomatoes for the sauce, and some chili powder and cumin instead of the Mrs. Dash's seasoning. I serve it on brown rice with low-fat sour cream and shredded 2% cheddar. Yum!! Thank you for this great recipe - 11/5/09

This was amazing! I did not add rice because of the additional carbs. But I think this would work well in a tortilla, or even with a few tortilla chips for dipping. I did add Red Pepper Flakes and cumin for a little more kick. - 11/8/17

This has gone into our regular rotation - the family loves it! I add a can of petite diced tomatoes with the seasonings and use 1 cap full of Mrs. Dash seasoning. It is great with sliced avocado on the side dressed simply with lime juice and fresh ground pepper. - 7/18/14

This was better than I expected! Like others, I used plain tomato sauce and then did my own spices: basil, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. I served it over brown rice, which makes it go further - we got about 8 servings out of this. - 6/25/12

Will definitely make again! I used mild chili beans, garlic/basil/oregano diced tomatoes, frozen corn, and fresh minced garlic. I also omitted the spices that the author used, and used chili powder and cumin. Wish it was spicier--I'll experiment with other spices in the future. thanks! - 10/18/11

Had 2 lbs. total ground turkey & ground chuck that needed to be cooked. Used cumin & chili powder instead of Mrs. D. 1 can rotel tomatoes & 1 can tomatoes w/garlic, oregano, basil. No rice. With modifications, deserves 5 stars. DH loved it. Lots of leftovers for later. Thanks, NESSA79. - 7/15/11

I used fresh garlic versus garlic powder, and added jalapenos for extra flavor. I used "no salt" tomato sauce and added my own basil. I also made homemade habanero hot sauce (cut down on the sodium of regular hot sauce). Overall the recipe was good, and I will definitely make it again. - 6/21/11

I was so enthusiastic to try this recipe that I started right away, even without all the precise ingredients. I subbed plain tomato sauce and added 1 Tbl. of basil and went extra heavy on the garlic powder. I also added 1 tsp. of Taco seasoning and a pinch of Uncle Dan's Ranch dressing mix. Yum! - 3/6/11

Great combination of flavors, makes a good meal over rice or in a tortilla. Also nice as leftovers for a quick meal the next day. Have fun with adding more spice or diced green chiles to give it some kick. - 5/26/10

I've made this for my hubby and will have to let you know what he thinks...as I don't like black beans but he really does. I also added ground cummin as it really seemed to fit with the Mexican theme.

Ok the results are in and the hubby liked it! Thanks for sharing!

Nice recipe! I replaced the tomato sauce with organic diced tomatoes with basil, blended, to reduce sodium content. I also added a jalapeƱo to boost flavor, but this could have used even more heat. Still, the contrast among the ingredients is very enjoyable. Thank you! - 6/11/09

My oldest daughter (Picky eater) said she didn't like it because of the black beans and we did add ground cummin to it but even my husband liked it!!! That is amazing because he is almost as picky as my daughter! He said it reminded him of a taco. - 1/30/08
