Introduction

I know it sounds weird: chocolate cake and tofu, together? It's so tasty, and a much healthier way to eat cake! I know it sounds weird: chocolate cake and tofu, together? It's so tasty, and a much healthier way to eat cake!
Number of Servings: 16

Ingredients

1 box super moist chocolate cake mix
    1-300g block of soft/dessert tofu
    1/4 cup water

Directions

With a food processor or blender (I use my hand/stick blender), mix cake mix and tofu together.
Once mixed, add 1/4 cup water and blend again until smooth.
Pour into baking dish and cook according to the directions on the cake mix box, depending what type of dish you use. Sometimes I make cupcakes, sometimes I make a cake and cut it into squares.
DO NOT add the oil/egg/whatever else the cake mix box says you need - the tofu takes the place of all of these!

I made this using a reduced sugar devils food cake mix, 454g grams of tofu and 1 cup of water. It made 18 generously sized cup cakes and topped each with melted semi-sweet chocolate (just 127 calories and 3g of fat each!). Absolutely delicious - my husband LOVES them! - 4/12/08

I made 2 thinner cakes then I put fat free cool whip and watered down low cal raspberry jam in the middle, then drizzle both over the top with fresh raspberries. I was skeptical (never really like tofu) but now it's my favorite! I loved it! - 6/6/07

Moist, delicious, easy! I used a Moist Spice Cake mix and the boxed tofu I used was 340 g. but I used the whole thing and used about 1/2 cup water. Great! I told my kids that it was a "snack cake" therefore it did not have any frosting and the bought it! They think it is great! - 4/18/09

Batter is very stiff, doesn't self-level like regular cake batter, so spread smoothly and evenly in the pan. No one knew there was tofu in it! But remember, cake mixes have transfats. Although healthier than regular cake, this is still not a healthy snack. But I still recommend it! - 2/4/10

Too much "junk" in this one, although it tasted good. Next time, I substituted Brown Rice Flour, Baking Powder and Cacao Powder for the cake mix. Just as good and much more healthful! (Take a look at the Ingredients on a box of cake mix if you want a real shock!) - 3/14/13

This was amazing. I made it with Duncan HInes German Chocolate Cake mix, and a brick of Morinu firm organic tofu. Just the richest most delicious cake ever. I used half a cup of H20, because the tofu was 349 gms not 300. Add H20 til the consistency works. "Sour" must've used the wrong tofu. - 12/30/08

Okay, this was great. I used some cheap off brand cake mix and Mori-Nu silken tofu. (the box says-- for use for smoothies and baking).

    I didn't add the water.

I made 12 muffins and enjoyed 1 and froze the other 11.

Thank you for snacks & dessert for the next 2 weeks!

    ROCKSTAR!

I made this with a devils food cake mix and everyone loved it. Did not tell them about the tofu- and they never noticed! The batter was very thick with the 300g of tofu, I added a little more water. Served it with sugar free choc. syrup & fat free whipped cream. Will try more tofu next time. - 10/7/10

Great idea! The only complaint I have is that the batter was TOO tasty (and of course safe to eat). I'm having a very low self-control day bc I'm stressed and over-tired. Now I feel sick and the cake isn't even out of the oven!

How about replacing silken soy puree with tofu. Silken soy puree takes less efforts for blending; it's much more consistent, smooth and creamy in texture. Most importantly, it's much more lower in beany taste. Check this website out: http://silkensoypuree.morinu.com/
