Introduction

Banana ppsicles with a delicious chocolate-peanut butter coating are a perfect low-cal snack! Banana ppsicles with a delicious chocolate-peanut butter coating are a perfect low-cal snack!
Number of Servings: 14

Ingredients

    7 small bananas
    2 tsp cocoa
    1/4 cup peanut butter
    14 popsicle sticks

Directions

Peel and cut bananas it half. Put a popsicle stick in each half.
Melt peanut butter in the microwave for 1 minute, on half power.
Mix in cocoa with the peanut butter.
Get a brush (I use a silicone one) and brush the mixture on all sides of each banana. Place on parchment paper. (You could also just drizzle it on). You can put them in the freezer just like that, but I put them in a fridge for a few to harden them a bit, then wrap each pop in plastic wrap and put them in the freezer.
Freeze for at least an hour.
A great little low calorie snack.

You can roll them in chocolate chips or chopped nuts after adding the peanut butter glaze.

I used natural peanut butter to make these and they didn't look very pretty, but they tasted amazing. I plan to make them again soon. :D Yum! - 7/20/10

Made these yesterday. Used only 1tbsp. peanut butter, 1 tsp. unsweetened cocoa powder, and added square of dark baking chocolate.
Didn't have any popsicle sticks so sliced the bananas, dipped them, froze on parchment lined cookie sheet, transfered to a freezer bag. Everyone loved them.

Uh, I think this was designed for regular peanut butter, not natural peanut butter. It didn't work so great for me. :/ - 7/8/10

These were ok. Mine didn't look as smooth as the picture. The mixture only made 6 half bananas, not 14. I think adding the nuts or coconut would make a big difference. - 6/17/10

I love this idea. I love to take frozen bananas and whirl them around in a food processor to make banana ice cream, but this sounds really good for individual banana pops. - 6/8/10

Have them in the freezer now. Had to keep reheating the peanut butter mixture and only got 8 half bananas, but I think they'll be great! - 6/20/13

As it isn't specified, does this refer to cocoa powder, or cocoa mixed up with water/milk? It might be easier to brush onto the bananas if using the liquid form, though it wouldn't be as chocolaty. - 1/7/13

I tried substituting for the cocoa & it did not work at all! It would have been fine with just the peanut butter or just the chocolate but together they solidified. I'll definitely try the cocoa & pre-freeze the bananas so they don't fall off the sticks. Maybe try some of the other suggestions, too! - 7/19/12

I think it is a little bitter. I used natural peanut butter which doesn't have added sugar . Plus it was more like a paste and didn't smooth onto the bananas very well. The flavor was a little better when sweetened by the banana. but still had a bitter background. - 1/24/11

I too, am confused about this recipe. I tried this and it did not work at all - the melted peanut butter/coacoa mix very quickly became a thick paste that didn't spread on the bananas at all, really. I ended up with chunks of the paste on the bananas. Did you mean 2 tsp of prepared hot coacoa? - 10/12/10

Yummy, but had a hard time coating them, maybe 1 min on med power wasn't long enough. More peanut buttery than chocolately. - 8/20/10

Sounds yummy, but I'm confused. The cocoa that is listed in the recipe, is it sweetened hot cocoa powder or unsweetened cocoa powder that you use for recipes? or something else? - 6/10/10
