Introduction

I'm sure that nothing about this recipe is remotely healthy, but the holidays are coming! It was passed down to me from my grandma who had a wicked sweet tooth. Ingredients

    2 cans apple pie filling
1 box white, vanilla, or butter cake mix
    pecans, chopped
    ground cinnamon
    1 stick butter or margarine

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a nine-inch cake pan, add both cans of apple pie filling, spreading across the pan to make as smooth a layer as possible. Generously sprinkle with cinnamon and pecans. Top pie filling with UNCOOKED cake mix, spreading to cover, just as before. Cut butter or margarine into squares and spread in a layer on top of cake mix. Top with more cinnamon and pecans if you like. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until cake mix layer has turned crusty and golden brown. Allow to cool if you wish, but cake will most likely crumble either way. Tastes great hot, or cold!

You can make it healthy. Use the no-sugar apple pie filling, the reduced sugar cake mix from Pillsbury and instead of the butter, pour a can of diet lemon lime soda over it. Spray with a little I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray if you wish. Same great taste, lower sugar and lower fat. - 10/23/08

    Very Good
This was great and gone in a matter of two days! I didn't use the whole box of cake mix, and certain areas came out yucky-gooey, but overall this is VERY tasty and super easy! - 12/14/09

This sounds wonderful and I like ANDERPA's suggestions for making it low-sugar. I plan to try this out. I think, however that the nutrition information is incorrect. It appears the calculator has simply used the cake mix recipe's stats for a slice of baked cake? Anyway, could someone check this? - 10/24/08
