Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    * 1 medium onion, chopped
    * 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
    * 3 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
    * 1/2 teaspoon hot red-pepper flakes
    * 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    * 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
    * 1 (28-ounce) can whole tomatoes in juice, drained, reserving juice, and chopped
    * Pinch of sugar
    * 1 1/4 pound large peeled and deveined shrimp
    * 1/4 pound feta, crumbled (2/3 cup)
    * 2 tablespoons chopped dill

Directions

Preheat oven to 375°F with rack in middle.

Cook onion and garlic in oil with 1/4 teaspoon salt in a 4-quart heavy saucepan over medium heat until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in spices and cook, stirring, 30 seconds. Add chopped tomatoes with juice and sugar and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat.

Season shrimp with 1/8 teaspoon salt, then stir into tomato sauce. Transfer to a 2-quart shallow baking dish and top with feta. Bake until just cooked through, 18 to 20 minutes. Serve sprinkled with dill.

    I only used half the oil and didn't use the salt at all, but I doubled the chilis!! Awesome! This will be on my regular rotation, for sure! - 4/13/09

    Looks good, but the olive oil isn't calculated into the total. I started to do a recipe makeover and reduce the olive oil, but found there isn't any olive oil at all in the list of ingredients. If you make this as written, it's 331 calories, not 241. - 7/9/12

    Yes, I found this recipe on Epicurious.com also. It is very saucy so make sure you have plenty of bread to sop up the juices. Actually, I served it with Ronald Regan's Rancho Rice & a small green salad! You know a good recipe when you see one! - 12/31/08

    Decent but reminded me of a Shrimp Diablo than something Greek. Red Pepper was the dominant flavor, I thought it was way too much sauce and I thought the oven was an unnecessary second step. Shrimp cooks so fast, why not toss it into the simmering sauce and cut your time in half? - 3/6/11

    Made this last night for dinner, my 17 yr old son RAVED about it, we were a little cautious of the cinnamon with shrimp but this dish was absolutely divine, its going to be a new regular at our dinner table for certain. We served it with a greek salad, some hummus and cilantro rice. Yummy!! - 3/25/10

    This is delicious--just the right blend of spices. It is very soupy, though, so next time I think I'll be serving it over orzo or rice. I do agree with the other comments that only one tablespoon of oil is needed. - 9/27/11

    This was really good! The only change I made was to cook the shrimp in the saucepan on the stove instead of in the oven . . . In Texas, you avoid the oven in the summer whenever possible! - 6/17/12

    This was great!!! Everyone loved it. I only used 1 tbsp of EVOO instead of 3, I didn't feel it needed more than that. I will be making this often, thanks for posting it. - 4/21/09

    OK, since I live alone, I would make the sauce & freeze in serving size, then when ready to eat, take 1 serving of sauce, 1/4 the amt of shrimp & feta & bake. I would leave out the salt (all seafood is salty) and use coconut oil not olive oil. I might add a teaspoon of olive oil before serving. - 4/21/12

    I absolutely love this. I made it with only 1T oil and reduced fat feta. I could only find cooked frozen shrimp so I skipped the baking step and just did all on the stovetop. The flavors were really excellent. I served it with couscous and roasted broccoli. - 4/26/12

    Super yummy! I put the garlic in at the very end of cooking the onions, I added half more allspice and cinnamon (probably would have loved spices doubled), crumbled Gorgonzola (and less of it) instead of feta. Good w/ and w/o dill. - 8/27/15

    Fabulous! Loved the flavor, and it was easy to prepare. I cooked it all in a non-stick skillet rather than using the oven (added the feta at the same time as the shrimp), and served it over brown rice. As others suggested, used only 1T of olive oil; did a Recipe Makeover to correct nutrition info. - 12/10/12

    I am not a big fan of adding dessert spices to main dishes. I could not get past the allspice flavor. It smelled wonderful, but on shrimp it had issues for me. I did not throw it out, but will not make it again. - 7/4/12
