Introduction

This is a cool, simple, breakfast oatmeal This is a cool, simple, breakfast oatmeal
Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

    1/2 cup oats
    1/2 cup milk
    about 25 raisins
    1 tsp cinnamon

Directions

This is a great recipe for summer days when you want your fiber but don't want a hot bowl of cereal.

In a bowl mix together oats, milk, raisins, cinnamon. Cover and place in fridge overnight. Enjoy the next morning.

A thick cut oat that soaks up all the milk may be preferable to other varieties, and you may find you need to experiment with different amounts of milk.

AWESOME! I used Vanilla soy milk and exchanged the raisins for 1/6 c. Craisins and added 1 tsp. of sliced almonds. The almonds add 40 calories but going by the labels it actually only totaled 323 calories. - 11/27/08

I do something similar but use steel cut oats, unsweetened vanilla soy milk and leave overnight. I either nuke for about 30 seconds or eat cold, I also add semi-frozen mixed berries. Its pretty yummy. - 6/12/09

I use Old-Fashioned oats and find that it takes no time to soften them. I made it overnight once and it was mush. Now I make it in the morning and it works out really well. Sometimes I add a bit of honey, most times I also add walnuts or pecans. Thanks for posting and sharing this easy meal! - 8/3/09

I have been eating this every morning now, its great! Especially with cut up banana. The calorie content is actually much lower - if you compare the SP nutrition information for oats to that listed on the Quaker Oats container, SP thinks oats have twice the calories that they actually do! - 4/19/08

Like others, I was a little skeptical -- but made this last night with lowfat yogurt, 1/2 C. frozen mixed berries, and 1/2 C. Old Fashioned Oats. I enjoyed it LOTS this morning -- will probably do it often! May be a good one to try with grandkids, who are coming later this week, too! - 8/3/09

I was skeptical of a cold versionof oatmeal, but I've always poured cold milk over the top of hot oatmeal anyway. I really liked this recipe. It's easy and you can customize it to your liking. I used skim milk, skipped the raisins and added 1 tblsp of brown sugar. - 8/4/08

Any easier, impossible! I used vanilla soy milk; added cinnamon and splenda instead of raisins and it was very good. The next day I tried with non-fat yogurt; that wasn't good: too dry, the oatmeal didn't soak well and tasted "raw." - 4/21/08

Pared it down to just the oats & milk with the 1 T. of br sugar that I usually add to regular oats made w/ H2O.Will use less sugar next time. Also added 2 T. bran buds for more fiber (25 cal/ 4 Gm fib). Can still stir in fruit or have it on the side.Saves time in AM too. THANK YOU! - 4/24/08

I added a tbsp of Splenda in the mix, as well. The flavor was really good, but I'm not yet sure how I feel about the texture. It was sort of gritty--this may be solved by using old-fashioned oats as opposed to the quick cooking kind. - 4/24/08

I did something else. I put the oats and frozen berries in a bowl overnight (fridge or counter). By morning, the berries left a lovely juice in the bowl (which was my milk subsitute). I added a little stevia and some chopped nuts, and voila! My version of Mueslix. Hemp milk is also nice. - 3/8/11

This is one of my faves! I grate an apple and grind up 1 T flaxseed for additional fiber. With the apple and cinnamon it reminds me of the taste of rice pudding. I use dried blueberries (fresh are great also) and raisins.
