Chef Meg shares a secret for getting the perfect grilled sandwich!

Number of Servings: 1

Ingredients

    2 slices whole wheat bread
2 oz sliced white meat turkey
    1 slice reduced-fat Swiss cheese
2 leaves green leaf lettuce, torn
1 tablespoon Chef Meg's Cranberry Relish
    nonstick cooking spray

Directions

Preheat a skillet to moderate heat. Spray one side of each piece of bread with nonstick cooking spray. Spread the cranberry relish on the opposite sides of the bread. Place the sprayed side onto the heat. Place the turkey on the pan with the cheese directly on top to warm the meat and cheese; once warm place on top of one of the slices of bread. Place the lettuce on the other slice and sandwich the two slices together. Grill until both sides are golden brown.

This is too many calories for a sandwich. I also prefer to wait to add the lettuce as it seems to wilt if heated. - 11/28/11

It sounds good to me, but I agree that it is very high calorie for a sandwich, so I'd have a hard time fitting it into my 1250 per day calorie total. And even on grilled sandwiches, I always add the lettuce after removing from the heat (but just my choice). - 11/28/11

I made a similar sandwich but toasted it on a George Foreman. The turkey was hot without having to heat it separately. Added lettuce after toasting. - 11/29/11

A good, whole grain/whole wheat bread is not only healthy, but filling. I use the light breads for breakfast and lunch, but sometimes a good full-calorie bread turns a sandwich into an excellent main dish! Add a cup of hot, low-cal soup and this is healthy comfort food at its best! - 11/30/10

I will stick with my fav: toasted Dave's Killer Lite bread, cranberries, fat free cream cheese and turkey breast. If I feel the need to add anything it would be a light sprinkle of salt and pepper. - 11/28/11

I'll definitly make this, it sounds awesome..... I'd like to add that I don't find low fat bread filling or satisfying, so I'd use a good wholewheat bread as the recipe suggests. All cooking is about great ingredients - 11/3/10

Looks simple and quick - but too many calories for a sandwich - I wonder if it would work with light bread? I'll try it and see. But it looks DELICIOUS! - 9/23/10
