I've made them here with extra lean turkey, but you could easily substitute ground chicken or tofu for the turkey and add any vegetables of your choice. This recipe will leave you saying...."PF who???"
Number of Servings: 4

Ingredients

    1 - 20oz pkg - Extra Lean Jennie-O Ground Turkey

    1/2 C fresh mushrooms, chopped

1/2 C scallions (green onions), thinly sliced on the bias

3/4 C red bell pepper, chopped

    1/2 C carrots, chopped

8 oz. can of water chestnuts, chopped

    1/4 C Kikkoman Teriyaki Sauce

1/4 C Kikkoman Lite Soy Sauce

2 T sugar free maple syrup

2 T freshly grated ginger root

    1T red pepper flakes

    1 tsp ground black pepper

1 large head of iceberg lettuce

Directions

Makes 4 HEARTY servings.

In a small bowl combine teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, syrup, ginger root, red pepper flakes and black pepper. Set aside.

In a skillet heated to med-high heat brown turkey. If needed drain, then add vegetables and sauce.

Continue cooking and stir occasionaly until vegetables are tender and sauce has reduced.

Remove the core from the head of lettuce and cut in half. Using the larger leaves as the shell fill them with the asian turkey and enjoy "taco style".

Again - way too high in sodium. I've had these at PF Changs, but that was before (or maybe why) I had to start taking 3 meds to control my blood pressure! - 11/4/09

I do understand that this is still very high in sodium, but I could only imagine what the orginal at PF Chang's would be. The soy sauce is hte lower sodium and you could remove the teriyaki sauce. Any asian flavored lower sodium alternative would work fine here - everything else is veggies!!! :-)

This was very good! It's spicy (and we like spicy), so I'll cut the red pepper flakes in half next time. I also doubled the chopped pepper, carrots and mushrooms. Good stuff! - 4/19/12

Amazing!! incredibly filling and very flavorful!!! Will make again,, however i will use much less red pepper. I like spicey food and that 1 tablespoon was too hot for me. I think I will go with a teaspoon next time. But I was pleased!!! - 1/31/12

These were really yummy...but, they were VERY spicy.(Even made my hubby's eyes water!) A previous review indicated they were on the spicy side and I agree. Good, but hot. If you aren't a spicy food lover, better reduce (or omit) the red pepper. - 5/14/10

These were really good, but really spicy, and I think I can handle pretty spicy food. I will make again but decrease the red pepper. - 2/16/10

Very good however it was too spicy for me. Next time I'm going to just use 1 tsp of red pepper flakes (eyes were watering the entire time I ate this). Otherwise yum! - 1/6/10

This was absolutely delicious. I substituted extra lean ground beef and fogot to put in my water chestnuts but still really yummy! - 2/15/21

This is very good. As far as the Sodium. I used low Sodium Soy Sauce, Teriyaki sauce & used alternatives for spices. It was very good. And PF Chang's it a lot higher in Sodium FYI. - 11/25/18

Didn't use the teriyake sauce, used just a dash of the soy sauce and omitted the maple syrup. Tasted delicious! - 10/18/18

These are terrific! I made them for two of us using a half package of Garden "meatless" crumbles. Used almost all the veggies and added a small zucchini and added 1/3 to the sauce. Since we had lettuce I just put it over that. Absolutely great and will definitely make it again. Easy too. - 6/21/18

Will keep this in my collection of recipes, thanks to other member comments I backed off on the amount of red pepper flakes otherwise very tasty served as a wrap but could just as easily serve it over rice - 4/25/17

Actually tastes as good as it looks. My new favorite. Regarding the sodium issue, I used low sodium Kikkoman Teriyaki and soy sauce. Also, I used 100% maple syrup instead of suger free. Other then that, nothing else to change....just fantastic, full, spicy flavor! - 1/8/16

These were pretty good, my 9yr old who doesn't like things too spicy LOVED these! I only did 1/2t of pepper flakes and added both garlic and sesame oil. Will reduce the ginger a little and will only do 1/4t of pepper flakes next time. Definitely something we will do again! - 4/5/13

I love spicy food but do not add more that 1-1.5 tsp of red pepper! I'm not sure how you could eat it. Such an amazing recipe!!! - 3/6/13

Made this and it was yummy! I used romaine lettuce and made more of a boat than a wrap. And I maybe used a bit too much red pepper but this recipe is definite keeper! - 1/3/13

Agree that it is really, really spicy, but the flavor is great! Made it with diced chicken. Consider bibb lettuce and low sodium teriyaki. - 9/11/12

There is nothing soothing about this recipe. I couldn't get past the heat to find out if the flavor was good or not. I drank water for hours to stop the burning. - 5/4/12

Love this!!! Will be a weekly rotation. I used one tsp of crushed red pepper and it was a sophisticated flavor of savory and sweet. Next time I will be adding even more veggies. I Googled how to separate lettuce leaves and some people use Romaine. Delish! - 2/26/12

So yummy! I used chicken breasts, diced, instead of ground turkey because I didn't have any on hand. I also added celery, and reduced the pepper flakes to 1tsp, although it was still a little too spicy. Will be making again this week - with 1/2tsp red pepper flakes! YUMMY! TY!! - 1/17/12

Very good, not spicy.....but too salty. I will try making again and reduce the soy sauce by at least half & add a tbsp or 2 of peanut butter. - 1/2/12

I made these for the first time for my sister and her friend...no pressure right ;) They LOVED them...My son even ate all of his and asked for more. This is amazing since he calls anything green "salad" while sticking out his tongue. He loved that I called them tacos. Better than P.F. Changs!! - 9/21/11

I used 2 tsp ground red pepper after having discovered my red pepper flakes were expired. It was pretty spicy, so I'd probably just do 1/2 Tbsp next time. Great recipe! Yes it's high in sodium but most Asian recipes are so don't eat it everyday and you'll be fine. - 6/30/11

Sounds great1 I can't wait to try it for dinner or lunch this week. I will substitute the soy sauce for Bragg's Liquid Aminos since there is no sodium in it. - 3/22/11

These were wonderful. It was a great way to hide vegetables from my nine year old. He ate them and enjoyed them. I did not add the hot red pepper, but had it out for adults to use. The kids didn't complain about them being hot. - 2/24/11

    Way too high in sodium!

If I make this, I'll probably use half the amount of soy sauce and teriyaki sauce, omit the honey, then add a few tablespoons of orange juice (for the sweetness that'd be missing from getting rid of the honey, and to make the reduced amount of soy and teriyaki go farther)
