Introduction

This is a spicy version of a childhood favorite. I actually use an ancho chili, but the ingredients list a green chili - that was the only chili already found on Spark. Feel free to vary the spice blend to reflect your own taste. It would be delicious with southwestern seasonings too - cumin and oregano along with the garlic & chilis. Enjoy and please comment if you make! This is a spicy version of a childhood favorite. Ingredients

1/2 lb. ground meat (I use lean organic)
    40 grams fresh tomato
2 T marinara sauce (I try to find sugarfree versions - hard!)
1 T ketchup (I use Heinz low carb)
    35 grams onion
    35 grams parsley with stems
    1 bay leaf
1 ancho chili pepper with seeds (if you like it less spicy, leave out seeds) - chopped into small pieces
generous teaspoons of oregano, thyme, & dried basil
    2 garlic cloves, diced
    salt

Directions

Saute meat, then add onion, parsley & spices. When all are nicely browned and soft, add marinara, ketchup and enough water to cover and reduce to simmer. Let simmer, covered, until tender - perhaps 2 hours. Season to taste with salt and any additional pepper you may desire at this point. Makes 4 sloppy joes, or use in whatever way you like! (over pasta if you are not doing low carb, for example)
