Introduction

My mom got this recipe from the back of a Mazola bottle sometime in the 50's. This is exactly how it's typed on her recipe card. It's my favorite sugar cookie. Ingredients

    2 C. sifted flour
    1 1/4 tsp baking powder
    1/4 tsp salt
1/3 C Mazola corn oil (any vegetable oil is fine, not olive oil)
    3/4 C sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, plus enough milk to make 1/3 cup.

Directions

Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into bowl. Add oil; blend well with fork or pastry blender. Mixture will appear dry. Beat sugar, vanilla, and egg-milk mixture together until light and fluffy. Stir this into the flour mixture and mix thoroughly. Chill about 1 hour.

Roll chilled dough out 1/4 inch thick onto floured board or cloth. Cut with cookie cutters into desired shapes; decorate with nuts, colored sugar, candied cherries, etc. Bake at 375 for ~8 minutes or until pale golden or very light brown at edges and bottom. Baking time may vary depending on your oven.

Makes roughly 3 dozen cookies depending on the size. One serving is 2 cookies.
