Ingredients

    3/4 cup shortening
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. ginger, ground
    1/4 c. molasses
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 egg
    1 tsp. cloves, ground
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

Mix shortening and sugar together until light & creamy, then add molasses and egg. Mix dry ingredients together in a separate bowl and add gradually to the molasses mixture, stirring after each addition. Roll the cookie dough into balls and roll in sugar, then bake for 12-15 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Take them oafter after they're cracked on the top, but don't leave them until the look completely done because then they will be overdone.
