I used to eat soy sausage patties for breakfast all the time. I can't find any I like here in the UK, so I came up with my own and they taste great! I used to eat soy sausage patties for breakfast all the time. I can't find any I like here in the UK, so I came up with my own and they taste great!

    1 Cup water
    1 Vegetable stock cube
    1/3 tsp ground thyme
    1/3 tsp ground sage
    1/4 tsp Onion powder

1 Cup dry textured vegetable protein (TVP)
    2 Medium eggs
    1/4 Cup bread crumbs
    1 Tbsp Vegetable oil

Add stock cube and spices to water, bring to boil. Add TVP. Remove from heat, stir well, and allow to cool enough to mix with eggs , about 15 mins. Beat egg and add to TVP mixture along with bread crumbs.
Let mixture sit for 5 mins. Form patties (extra may be frozen). Fry up (about 3 minutes per side, till nicely browned) and enjoy! Patties will be soft, so turn gently.

  • I bought a small bag of TVP on a whim. This was my first foray into vegetarian cooking, and I love them! I was very surprised that the rehydrated TVP actually has a very meaty texture. I can definitely see myself having these for breakfast frequently. Thanks for the great recipe! - 6/8/16

  • These were excellent! I added red pepper flakes because it's not sausage flavor to me without red pepper flakes. Also, I didn't add oil to them because I thought the oil was for frying them (the recipe didn't mention mixing it in)...but these patties definitely needed oil mixed in. Still tasty! - 2/9/13

  • WOW!!!! this is my first time trying TVP. Have wanted more vegetarian in my life, have to be gluten free(no wheat products) couldn't eat the veg burgers in the grocery. Made this with Gluten Free bread crumbs (food processed dried gluten free bread from the grocery) and gluten free broth! Delicious! - 1/9/13

  • This was the first time I cooked with TVP. I didn't use the sage or onion powder and I made them into burger they turned out good. I also added a little flour into them. - 8/31/11

I just made a batch this afternoon and put them in the freezer so I can treat myself when I have a fancy. Hope you enjoy these.
