Introduction

Ingredients

1 2/3 c flour
1/4 c brown sugar
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/3 c oats
1.5 sticks butter
2/3 c buttermilk, plus extra for brushing
Topping: 2 Tbsp oats, 2 Tbsp brown sugar
Directions
Mix dry ingredients in food processor. Pulse oats in until nearly ground. Add chopped butter, pulse until butter is nearly ground. Add to bowl, mix in buttermillk with fork.
Knead a few times on floured board. Form into 9" square, cut into 3x3 squares, then cut each square in half.
Place on cookie sheet, brush with extra buttermilk, sprinkle with topping.
Bake at 425 for 16 minutes or until browned.
Serve with jam.

I have now added this recipe to my B&B breakfasts. I have made it now with raisins which were great, and apple chunks which were also wonderful. They freeze well which has been a godsend in this heat as I only had to bake once then reheat as many as needed later. Thanks so much for sharing this! - 7/25/12
