    3/4 cup shortening
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    1 1/2 cups flour
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/4 tsp nutmeg
    1 cup mashed banana
    1 3/4 cup oatmeal, uncooked
    optional: raisins, nuts, wheat germ, sunflower seeds, grated orange peel


Cream shortening with sugar, add the egg, and mix well. Mix flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg together and add to creamed mixture. Blend until smooth. Add mashed banana and oatmeal next. Blend. Add in optional ingredients as desired. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 12 - 15 minutes.
