My entire family loves this recipe! We call it 3-2-1 cake though, as it helps everyone remember the directions. 3 Tbs mix, 2 Tbs water and 1 minute in microwave. I love nutella and I usually drop a spoonful into the mix before I throw it in the microwave. Comes out great! - 6/7/12

BEACHWALKER1P1, it does work without the angel food cake. I just tried it. I used 3 TBSP cake mix, 1/2 tsp baking powder, & 1 TBSP water. I microwaved for 1 min and it turned out great. I just made a spice cake with cream cheese frosting snack this way!! - 8/10/13

Love this. I like to add a tablespoon of marshmallow creme before I microwave. Gives it a gooey texture and I eat with a spoon. - 8/25/13

Really like this recipe, great to be able to eat a single serving of cake without having a whole baked cake sitting around :) I decided to follow LISALOSINGLISA's idea and call it 3-2-1 cake so I can remember the instructions easily :) - 10/21/12

This is so AWESOME! Great for when you just have to have cake, but don't want to bake a whole cake...or if your family is having a whole cake, but you want to behave and yet not feel deprived. I'm so glad someone else did the math! - 3/13/12

I love this cake! I can change it up with different add ins. I made one serving this morning using white cake mix and the angel food, with a small diced apple and cinnamon mixed in, microwaved for 120 seconds and it came out like a sweet, cinnamon apple muffin! - 9/1/16

I made it with chocolate cake mix. I didn't find it chocolate flavored enough so I added Nestle Quick. Also, the portion was too small for me, so I doubled it. - 5/10/16

While this is good, please do the work and measure ingredients and add up the calories. I did 1 batch and it was only 30 servings and 109 calories and the other flavor was 30.333 and 129 calories. It tastes great and was quick and easy to satisfy a sweet tooth. - 5/2/16

I HAVE USED SUGAR FREE CAKE MIXES, AND THIS LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN COMES OUT JUST GREAT! TOP IT WITH LIGHT WHIPPED TOPPING, ROZEN YOGURT, OR SUGAR FREE ICE CREAM! - 7/21/15

The taste was good but the texture was, to be honest, more like a sponge than a cake. Then I tried 50 minutes and it was much better. Experiment with your microwave a bit. I added unsweetened cocoa and the result was a light chocolate cake. Nice quick treat. And no temptation of leftover slices! - 10/23/14

I love this as it is low calorie and I don't have the whole cake to deal with. You can top this with frosting, fresh fruit, cream, yoghurt, you name it. - 10/20/14

This can be made with just the egg whites packet in an angel food cake mix.I'm not sure how much this saves in calories however it can be mixed just a the original recipe suggests. - 9/2/13

My MIL made this with carrot cake and angel food. She added a tablespoon of cream cheese frosting on top. While not the healthiest of options, I absolutely love being able to make a single serving at a time. I definitely want to try to add some of the options mentioned here. - 8/25/13

I LOVED this little cake! Quick, easy, and gets rid of my sweet fix when needed! One question though. Does it have to be made in a mug? Why not a small Pyrex container that is approximately the same width, but not as high as a mug? Just wondering.... - 7/15/13

BEACHWALKER1P1, I'm thinking that the very high egg white content of angel food cake mix is necessary for this to work in the microwave. Every copy of this recipe stresses that I've seen stressed that one of the mixes must be AF cake.

Not the texture I was hoping for, but still pretty good. Super simple and tasty though! Still beats having an entire cake sitting on the counter! - 3/25/13

Delicious! I've been trying all kinds of mug cakes, but they have too many ingredients and are too dense. This was perfect...plus I can add fruit, nutella, etc. FYI, you have to use the AF cake b/c it's the only mix with egg whites included, which will bind everything together. - 3/5/13

is the angel food cake mix important or can you do this with just 1 box of regular cake mix? - 3/3/13

I love these little cakes. I measured out my mix before I started making them and I only got 34.66 servings so maybe different cake mixes have different amounts of mix in them. With the counts on my boxes mine were 104 calories before additions. - 11/11/12
