Ingredients

Pie crust, frozen, ready-to-bake, 1 crust, single 9"
    Cinnamon, ground, 1 tbsp
    Nutmeg, ground, 1/4 tsp
    Granulated Sugar, 2 tsp
    Apples, fresh, 8 cup, chopped
    Lemon juice, 2 tbsp
    Molasses, .25 cup
    Butter, salted, 4 tbsp

Tips

350 F can be obtained by placing 6 charcoal coals under the Dutch oven and 5-6 on top. Check pie after 20 minutes to be sure it is not burning on top or bottom. If pie crust browns before pie is done take coals off the top and let it cook the rest of the time from the bottom.

You can replace 8 cups of apples with 6 cups of peaches and 2 cups of blueberries.

Directions

Cut apples into roughly 1" pieces and add lemon juice. In a large zip lock mix cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. Add the apples to the bag, seal and shake until all pieces of apple have been covered. Grease bottom of Dutch oven with 1 Tbsp butter. Pour apple mixture into the Dutch oven. Add molasses and 2 Tbsp of butter (small slices) over the top of the apples. Place the pie crust on top of the apples and cut the remaining butter into small pieces on top of the crust. Bake at 350 F for 40-50 minutes.
