Ingredients

    1 head red cabbage - chopped or sliced
    1 jar unsweetened apple sauce
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. white vinegar (or 1 c. cider vinegar)
    2 T. Crisco
    1 c. water


Tips

Cabbage will cook down, so don't be afraid to stack it a bit in your kettle. German recipe from my mother-in-law, who was a German Immigrant.


Directions

Add ingredients together, bring to a boil and simmer for 3 hours or until cabbage is tender. It is always best when it is made the day before you want to serve it.
