Introduction
A quick and light way to have a hearty meal A quick and light way to have a hearty mealNumber of Servings: 6
Ingredients
1 lb of extra lean ground beef
2 small onions diced
1 cup of mushrooms diced
1 TBSP of I can't believe its not butter
1 TBSP of minced Garlic (optional)
1/4 Cup of water
1 Tsp of ground black pepper
1 TBSP of Worchestershire Sauce
1/4 Cup of Bread Crumbs (any flavor)
6 TBSP of Egg Whites (2 eggs)
1 package of Onion Soup Mix
1 package of Mushroom Gravy Mix
1 package of Onion Gravy Mix (optional)
We serve with mashed cauliflower (like mashed potatoes) or with a brown rice. Not included in nutritional value.
Tips
If you want additional gravy, use both packets of gravy (included in nutritional value). You can cook this faster and separately, but I have found that doing it this way really preserves the flavor.
Directions
Heat pan to medium with butter. Use a large pan with a lid. Saute 1 onion, mushrooms, and garlic (optional) for about 5 mins. Place in separate bowl and set aside. Do not rinse pan, you will reuse it so just set it to the side.
Combine meat, 1 diced onion, worchestershire sauce, bread crumbs, egg whites, water, 1 TBSP of Onion Soup Mix, and 1 TBSP of Mushroom Gravy mix. Mix thoroughly and make into 6 patties. Use 1/2 cup of mixture per patty. They are meant to be very moist.
Reheat pan to medium and place patties in a circle on the edges of pan. Brown one side about 4-6 minutes until it is very brown. Do not press flat. It is meant to be on the dark and crisp side. Then flip meat over one time and cook again for 4-6 minutes. Place patties on a plate to to the side.
Using the same pan, make gravy mix according to directions. Add remaining onion soup mixture but do not add additional water. Once gravy has finished, mix the sauteed mushrooms and onions into gravy mixture. Set pan to side to let sauce thicken as it cools.
Put gravy mixture in a bowl to the side. Put patties back into pan and heat on medium low. Pour gravy over patties and place lid on pan. Let simmer with lid on for about 10 mins.
Serving Size: Makes 6 servings. Patties are 1/2 Cup each.
