Ingredients

    3 cups (603g) split black lentils, with skin, cleaned and washed thoroughly
    1 small yellow or red onion, peeled and finely chopped
    2 small tomato, finely chopped
    1 (1") piece ginger, peeled and sliced in 1" long strips
    4 - 6 Thai, serrano, or cayenne chiles, stems removed
    1 tbsp cumin seeds
    1 heaping tbsp salt
    1 tsp tumeric powder
    1 tsp cayenne powder
    10 cups water
    fresh chopped cilantro to garnish

Tips

The original recipe calls for 12 cups of water, but that wouldn't fit into my crockpot.


Directions

Place all the ingredients into a 5-quart crock pot (except for the cilantro) and cook on high for 6 hours. Garnish with the cilantro.
