Introduction
This makes 2 hamburger buns. This makes 2 hamburger buns.Number of Servings: 2
Ingredients
-
100g flour
55-60g water
1/2 tsp active dry yeast
1/4 tsp salt
Tips
For a non-vegan version, add an egg-wash before you bake them; this will give them a shiny brown finish. With either an egg or water wash you can then sprinkl sesame seeds on top.
Directions
Proof yeast by heating water to about 110F, adding sugar and yeast, and stirring. Let sit about 5 minutes or until it foams up.
In a bowl mix 80g flour and salt.
Pour in water-yeast mixtures and oil, then either:
[1] Stir with a spoon until stiff and turn out onto a surface dusted with the remaining flour, and knead 6-10 minutes.
or:
[2] Using a dough hook mix until smoth -- add the remaining flour -- and the dough pulls away from the bowl, about 5 minutes.
Cover and let rise in a lightly oiled -- use non-stick spray -- bowl until double, about 45-60 minutes. Lightly punch down, divide in two, and roll into two balls. Lightly flatten and place a couple inches apart on a baking sheet (either lightly greased or covered in parchment or wax paper.
Preheat oven to 350F.
Bake about 12 minutes or until they begin to brown. Take out of the oven and immediately cover with a towl (this helps to keep them soft).
To serve slice in half; you can also toast them.
