Ingredients

    5 pound bag of flour (20 cups)
    4 cups nonfat dry milk powder (or buttermilk powder)
    3/4 cup baking powder
    2 Tbsp. salt
    1 Tbsp. cream of tartar
    5 cups vegetable shortening

Tips

With an electric mixer put 3-4 cups dry ingredients into mixing bowl with one cup shortening and mix it together. Put finished mixture in a separate large bowl. Use a hand mixer to blend it all together. Comes out the same, and it's easier on your arms and shoulders!


Directions

Whisk (or sift) together the dry ingredients. With a pastry blender, or your hands, (or see Tips section) cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal in texture. Store in airtight container.

Serving Size: makes 8 quarts of mix
