Ingredients
-
2 slices white sandwich bread, broken up into quarters
1/4 cup 2% milk
2 lbs ground turkey
salt & pepper
1 tbsp vegetable oil
3 onions, minced
1/8 cup chili powder
1/4 cup tomato paste
6 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp ground cumin
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1 (398ml) can tomato sauce
1 (540ml) can Six Bean Medley
1 (540ml) can Dark Red Kidney Beans
2 (540ml) cans Aylmer Petite Cut Stewed Tomatoes
1 1/2 cups low sodium chicken broth
3 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp minced canned chipolte chili in adobo sauce
Tips
Can increase chili pepper if you like it spicy. Also have added peppers to get a more chili like dish. The chipotles really add a smoky flavor to the chili.
Directions
Mash bread and milk into a paste in a bowl using a fork. Mix in turkey, season with 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper. (The bread helps keep the turkey from getting dry)
Heat oil in skillet. Add onions, chili powder, tomato paste, garlic, cumin, oregano, and red pepper flakes and cook until onions are softened and lightly browned. Stir in turkey mixture and cook, breaking up large pieces. Once cooked, stir in tomato sauce, then put in crock pot.
Stir in beans, tomatoes with juice, broth, soy sauce, sugar and chipotles. Cover and cook for 4-6 hours on low.
