Introduction
My mother makes this chili every fall and winter for us. It can be made with ground beef, ground pork, or a combination, but we use ground turkey. It is great topped with cheese on a cold winter evening or served over tortilla chips for a easy lunch. My mother makes this chili every fall and winter for us. Ingredients
-
2 lbs 93% Lean Ground Turkey
2 cans Brooks Mild Chili Beans
1 can Brooks Hot and Spicy Chili Beans
3 cans Gia Russa Fancy Tomato Sauce
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
5 tsp Tone's Chili Powder
1 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp sea salt
1 tsp ground red or cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 tbsp canola oil
1 tbsp ketchup
Tips
For milder chili, use 3 cans mild chili beans and skip cayenne pepper. For spicier chili, use 3 cans hot and spicy chili beans. Add in your favorite veggies such as canned diced tomatoes, fresh chopped green pepper, or chopped celery. Serve over spaghetti for a delicious chili mac.
Directions
In a large dutch oven or stock pot, saute ground turkey and onion in canola oil. Season with 1/2 teaspoon salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Toss until turkey is lightly browned and onions are translucent. Remove from heat and stir in beans, tomato sauce, chili powder, cayenne pepper and ketchup. Bring to a boil on medium heat. Add remaining salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 90 minutes.
