Introduction
Pre-soaking is the secret of this easy recipe. This is so easy, I make up a bunch of servings and always have it on hand. It's almost instant breakfast/lunch/dinner and can be made in many varieties. You just need to remember to put a bag in the fridge the night before. I tend to put one in when I take one out as it will stay good for several days. Pre-soaking is the secret of this easy recipe. Ingredients
-
1/4 Cup Quinoa
1/4 Cup Pearl Barley
1/4 Cup Steel Cut Oatmeal
1/4 Cup Bulgar Wheat
4 Tbsp Flax Seed
Tips
Variant 1: 1 Tsp crunchy peanut butter and 1 tsp chocolate chips (add after cooking)
Variant 2: .25 cup canned pumpkin, 1 tsp walnuts, 1 tsp craisins, a little Splenda or maple syrup, pumpkin pie spices
Variant 3: sprinkle with feta cheese and sage after cooking, top with an over easy egg
Variant 4: Cut up one apple, add milk, cinnamon and Splenda to taste (1 tsp for me)
Directions
Mix all ingredients and divide into four resealable baggies.
Take one baggie and add 1/4 cup of water (or milk, but that's not included in the nutrition info).
Refrigerate for a day or two.
When you want to eat it, put it in a microwavable bowl, add a bit more milk or water, and any variants you want, microwave for two minutes, stir and then microwave for two more minutes (careful, it might boil over). And enjoy!
