Introduction

Ingredients

2 lbs lean ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper
3.5 cups tomato sauce
3.5 cups water
1.5 cups brown (or white) long grain rice, uncooked
1 large head cabbage, shredded (about 8-10 cups)
Tips
* * if you wish to make this in smaller casserole dishes, bake about the same length of time, just keep an eye on it till you can see it's done.
Directions
Put the onions in a large skillet with a bit of butter, cook till soft. Add the beef and brown. Once the beef is cooked, add the salt, pepper, tomato sauce and water. Bring to a boil and then add the rice.
Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
In a 9x12 baking dish, put a layer of the shredded cabbage, then beef/rice mixture, then cabbage and then beef/rice mixture.
Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees F for an hour.
Just before done, take out of oven and sprinkle shredded cheese over all. Put back in oven, without foil cover until cheese is melted.
Serving Size: Makes about 6 1-cup servings
