Ingredients
-
6 2" thick Rib Eye Steaks (marbled is best)
1 tbsp Kelp
2 tbsp Olive Oil
1 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp Garlic Powder (or Garlic Crystals)
3-4 Fresh Garlic Bulbs
1 large Yellow Onion (sliced thin)
8-10 Button or Portabello Mushrooms (sliced medium)
3 cups dry red wine (divided)
Tips
I make this for Shabbat in two separate roasting bags to make it easier to have one on Friday nite and re-heat the other for Saturday lunch. If only have two or three people for the meal, I either freeze the left over meat for another meal, or I use it to make Beef Soup. I generally serve this with stir-fry veggies, or olive oil basted roasted veggies and/or mashed potatoes (because the meat gravy is great over the potatoes).
Directions
Mix spices together (Kelp, Turmeric and Garlic Powder or Garlic Crystals) and rub all over the steaks or rib eye roast. Slice the fresh raw garlic cloves into 3-4 slices and place within the steaks or roast. Rub the olive oil all over the steaks or roast. Place the roast (or half a roast each, or three steaks each) into a plastic roasting bag. Put half the sliced onion and half the sliced mushrooms in each bag. Pour 1 and 1/2 cups of dry red wine into each bag, twist the top shut with a twist tie, and move the wine around in the bag to soak everything in the wine.
Bake in a pre-heated oven for only 30-40 minutes for medium rare.
