Ingredients
-
1lb. Ground Chuck
1 Medium Onion, diced
1 Bell Pepper, diced
2 Stalks celery, diced
3 Cloves of garlic, minced
2 Cans Bush's Chili Beans
1 Can Whole Kernel Corn, drained
1/2 Cup Ketchup
2 Cups water
3 Tablespoons Chili Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
1 Tablespoon Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
Tips
Don't leave out the celery. It is not a common ingredient in chili but it really adds a ton of flavor and texture that make this dish delicious. To cut the calories you can substitute ground turkey or TVP for the beef. I have added tomatoes and fresh jalapeņos from the garden for a little variety. When adding tomatoes I leave out the additional sugar. This basic recipe is easy to adapt to your individual taste. This is spicy and if you want to reduce the heat cut the cayenne pepper in half.
Directions
Brown ground beef with the onions, celery and bell pepper until the meat is cooked through and the vegetables are tender. Drain and return to pan. Add the garlic and cook for one minute more. Add the chili powder, cayenne, salt and sugar and cook for a minute then add the beans, ketchup, water and corn. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes or longer if desired.
