Introduction

Feel like your Christmas tradition is missing a little bit of the old country flair? Like to add fire to your drinks? Feuerzangenbowle is a traditional German mulled wine that is served around New Year's Eve. What makes it different from regular mulled wine is the addition of a small cone of sugar (Zuckerhut) that you suspend over the wine, soak in rum, and light on fire.

It looks impressive & it tastes delicious. :)

Ingredients

    3 Bottles Red Wine
    2 Cinnamon Sticks
    Pinch of ground Cardamom
    Pinch of Ground Allspice
    Pinch of Ground Cloves
    .5 tsp Ginger Root
    2 Organic, Unwaxed Lemons
    2 Organic, Unwaxed Oranges
    8 fl oz Rum
    1 Zuckerhut (Sugar Cone)

Tips

You'll need a Zuckerhut (cone of sugar) to make this drink. If you search for "Zuckerhut" on Amazon, you'll be able to find it easily.

Directions

Wash lemons and oranges, pat dry, and cut into wedges.

Add red wine, oranges, lemons, cinnamon stick, cardamom, and allspice to a large pot. Heat up slowly, but DO NOT LET BOIL.

Reduce heat to lowest setting, to keep punch warm.

Place or hold Zuckerhut above the pot (you can use tongs to hold it, or arrange skewers as a little bed for it).

Soak Zuckerhut with rum. Light it on fire.

Once the Zuckerhut has melted, stir up contents in pot and serve.
