Introduction

This has been a family favorite growing up and now my kids love them and ask for them all the time. Easy to make and yummy to eat. Can add more sugar for more taste or use sour cream, yogurt, etc for the liquid portion. All is great and each gives a slightly different texture. We use the ingredients in the recipe for a more healthy version. The kids never noticed the difference. Ingredients

    7 cups whole wheat flour
    1 cup brown sugar
    2 tsp baking soda
    1 cup applesauce
    1 - 1 1/2 cups 2% milk

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix dry ingredients until smooth (no lumps from sugar). Add wet ingredients until moist and thick. You don't want it too moist. Place evenly on cookie sheet. Cook for 25 minutes or until starting to brown on top (will still look moist on the inside). Cool for a few minutes until cool enough to crumble. We like bigger pieces then what you find in the store bought version. Or you can cool entirely and put in blender to get the small crunchier pieces. Store in air tight container. (Approx 1 cup per serving)
