Introduction

A quick, on-the-go meal replacement that covers all your nutritional bases and has a nice anti-inflammatory boost. This Smoothie is Raw, Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, and Soy Free.

The base of this recipe, Garden of Life's Raw Organic Meal shake and meal replacement has protein, fiber, fruits and vegetables, greens, and raw probiotics & enzymes. Any flavor (or unflavored) will do, but adjust the recipe accordingly to taste.

This powder covers all your nutritional needs like a boss, but is a little earthy due to the fact that it uses natural, organic ingredients. I played around with smoothie ingredients until I found a winning combination that not only masked the earthy texture of the powder but enhanced the desired flavor as well.

Ingredients

1 large (8" to 8-7/8" long) Banana, frozen
8 oz (roughly 4 ice cubes) Zico Natural Premium Coconut Water, frozen
1 cup Silk Pure Almond Milk - Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
1 scoop (32 grams) Garden of Life Raw Organic Meal Vanilla Spiced Chai
    .5 tsp Cinnamon, ground
    .5 tsp Turmeric, ground
    1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Tips

Optional: adding a little ground ginger and ground cardamom will boost the anti-inflammatory properties already present due to the turmeric and cinnamon, and add some other welcome health benefits.

The soy milk can be replaced with any milk or alternative milk of choice. Personally, I recommend coconut milk to keep with the flavor theme.

For a stronger chai taste, brew chai tea (the stronger the better) the day before and freeze in an ice tray overnight. Replace half or all of the coconut water ice cubes with the chai tea ice cubes.

Directions

You'll need frozen banana and coconut water ice cubes on hand prior to making this recipe. You can replace the coconut water with regular ice, but the bananas are pretty essential.

Peel a ripe to overly ripe banana and break into 4 pieces. Place in a ziploc or container and freeze until completely frozen.

Place frozen banana pieces and ice cubes in the blender, followed by the milk. Then add spices and meal powder. Cover and blend until smooth. Pour into glass and serve with a sprinkling of ground cinnamon for effect.
