Introduction

Grandma a similiar bread when she made all of her other bread. It was delicious hot of the oven with butter and honey on it. I have made it my own recipe by changing some of the ingredients to healthier ingredents. She used half white and half wheat flour. Mine is 100% Wheat and I prefer to grind my own wheat flour but you can just use whole wheat flour. Grandma a similiar bread when she made all of her other bread. Ingredients

6 1/2 c. or more whole wheat flour
    1/4 c. ground flax seed
    1 T. yeast
    2 1/2 c hot milk
    7 T. Smart Balance
    1/2 c. honey
    1 T. salt

Directions

Place in mixing bowl milk, 3 T. Smart Balance, 1/4 c. honey and salt and yeast. Mix 10 mins. After 10 mins. add ground flax seed and enough flour to let it come clean around mixer. Let it raise until it comes out of the mixer. Then roll into balls about 1 1/2 inch round and put in greased muffin tins. Let it raise to about double in size. Bake at 350* for about 20 - 30 mins. until golden on top. Remove from oven. Mix remainder of honey and Smart Balance together. Spread on top of hot rolls and let soak in before removing the rolls from pans. Serve warm. I always plan rolls to come out of oven just before dinner is served.

NOTES: I have used olive oil instead of Smart Balance but still like the buttery taste so prefer Smart Balance. FYI Smart Balance is a buttery spread that is suppose to be better for you than butter or margerine. My dh's doctor recommended it to dh.

I will make smaller balls and put 3 per tin to make clover leaf rolls as well. You may make this dough into your favorite roll shapes I just picked the easiest for convience. Remember to flour your hands.

Make the rolls to be the size you prefer. Mine are on the smaller side but any size is fine. Just remember that changes the nutritional info.

I loved these! I used them to make breakfast sandwiches! I did leave off the buttering of the tops though. - 1/2/10

Doesn't the hot milk kill the yeast? - 1/9/15
