Number of Servings: 9

Ingredients

    Green Split Peas, dry (16 ounce bag), 16 oz, rinsed
    Carrots, raw, 2 cup, chopped
    Celery, raw, 4 stalk, large (11"-12" long), chopped
    Onions, raw, 1 medium (2-1/2" dia), chopped
    Ham, extra lean, (5% fat), 2 slice (6-1/4" x 4" x 1/16"), chopped
    Pepper, black, .5 tsp
    Garlic powder, .25 tsp
    *Onion powder, .25 tsp
    Water, tap, 8 cup (8 fl oz)
    Morton Lite Salt, 0.25 tsp

Directions

Rinse split peas. Put in soup pot. Add 8 cups of water. Bring to a boil and simmer, covered, for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes.

Add other ingredients. Bring back to boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered, for another hour, stirring at least every 15 minutes.

Soup will thicken as it cooks.

This recipe makes 9 one-cup servings.

    Very Good
    Me too-- I love this soup but cannot afford all the sodium in canned soups-- What a great snack on a cold day! I'd like to try it with sweet potatoe in place of the carrots. - 11/17/08
