The only sauce you will ever make again.
Fast, easy and so good.

Number of Servings: 12

    1/4 cup olive oil
    1 red onion, chopped
    6 garlic cloves, chopped
    2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
    Salt to taste
    3 Tablespoons chopped fresh basil

In a 3-quart saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and cook until golden brown, approximately 8 to 10 minutes.
Add the tomatoes and salt. (I always use Contadina) Bring to a boil, then cook over low heat for approximately 30 minutes, stirring often. Turn off the heat and add the fresh basil.
Yields about 6 cups.

  • perfect marinara sauce - I always use a regular yellow onion but other than that, this is just about the same family recipe I've used for 50 years of marriage. Delicious, inexpensive, freezes well and perfect for a Friday meal during Lent. Great base for pasta fagiole - 3/26/15
