Introduction

Low calorie and nearly fat free veggie burgers with smoked paprika and liquid smoke. They don't claim to taste like real meat, but they are still very good. Ingredients

    1 - 15 oz can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
    1 - 4 oz can diced green chilies
    2/3 cup flat-leaf parsley, tightly packed
    1/2 tsp liquid smoke
    1/2 cup bread crumbs
    1/2 tsp smoked paprika
    1/4 tsp garlic powder
    1/4 egg substitute
    salt and pepper to taste (optional)

Directions

1) Place the chickpeas, green chilies, parsley and liquid smoke in a food processor and pulse until finely chopped.
2) Place mixture into a bowl, adding bread crumbs, smoked paprika and garlic powder. Add salt and pepper, if desired, stir well. Add egg, mix until well combined. Form into 4 patties about 1/2 inch thick.
3) Heat a large skillet, coated with cooking spray, over medium heat. Cook burgers for 5 minutes, then turn over. Cook for 5 more minutes. If adding cheese, do it during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.
