Introduction

A quick and easy apple treat (and it's not too bad for you as pies go, either!). A quick and easy apple treat (and it's not too bad for you as pies go, either!).
Number of Servings: 8

Ingredients

    1 9-inch frozen pie crust

    For filling:
4-5 baking apples (Granny Smith, Mutsu, etc)
    1/3 cup granulated sugar
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    1/8 tsp ground cloves
    1/8 tsp ground allspice
    3 tbsp flour

    For topping:
    1/4 cup sugar
    6 tbsp flour
    1/2 stick of unsalted butter

Directions

Preheat the oven to 400*.

Peel, core, and thinly slice apples. Place in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix sugar and spices. Pour over apples and toss until apples are coated.

For topping: In a small bowl, mix flour and sugar. Dice butter into small cubes and cut into flour and sugar with a pastry cutter or using a food processor until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Pour apples into a prepared 9-inch frozen crust. Gently cover with crumb topping.

Bake at 400* for 40-45 minutes. If pie starts to brown too quickly, cover lightly with foil.

**NOTE**: For a flakier pie crust, don't take crust out of freezer until JUST before baking!
