Introduction

The thin-pretzel version turned out not to be so successful, so I've remade them with the original square pretzels (butter flavour) but kept the gourmet substitution of Riesen's dark chocolate caramels for the Rolo candies. Because these pretzels are smaller, I cut the Riesen in half. That helps keep the calories down (the butter pretzels have a lot more calories than the thin style I used in the previous recipe). Still, at 130 calories or so for 2 of these, it's a pretty low calorie treat. Ingredients

    24 Snyder's Butter Snap Pretzels
    12 Riesen Chocolate Chews
    12 Raw Pecan Halves

Directions

Preheat toaster oven to 250 degrees.

Cut the chocolate chew in half width-wise, leaving two roughly square pieces. Place each half-chew on a pretzel on an ungreased, nonstick baking pan. Place in oven for 3 minutes until the filling in the chew halves starts to get soft and the chocolate coating is shiny.

Remove baking pan from oven. Let cool for 3 minutes (to give the caramel time to harden - it will have leaked through the lattice in the pretzels). Then place a half cashew on each cookie and smash down the chocolate.

This is a fun little treat to make with a young child.

Makes 12 cookies.
