Introduction

This recipe is for 5 arepas. This arepas can be filled with cheese slices, ham slices, scrambled eggs, meat (shredded), tuna etc. Ech arepa has only 110 calories, doesn't have any fat calories other than the corn oil that you need to greased the griddle where you are going to cook them. If you choose to fry them instead of cooking on the griddle, then Arepas will be a fatty meal.

Don't forget that to the calories of the Arepa , you will need to add the calories of the filling you choose to accompany with.

If you choose Tuna, you will find that is a really light meal!!

Arepas are delicious!! Can be eaten for breakfast or for dinner.

Ingredients

    Ingredients:
Precooked White Corn Flour (Harina Precocida de Maiz Blanco o Harina Pan), 1 cup
Water, tap, 1 cup (8 fl oz)
    Salt, 0.5 tsp
    *Corn Oil, 1 1tsp

Directions

Put one cup of corn flour in a bowl, add little by little one cup of warm water, then add salt. Make a soft dough. Let the dough stand for 3 minutes, to obtain softer arepas. Add three more tablespoons of water if needed and knead. Once you have the dough, shape the arepas (make a ball with the dough and squeeze with both palms of your hands, and make them round). Then cook them on a lightly greased griddle until crusty on both sides.

    Very Good
Made these and love them except the insides do not seem to get all the way cooked. Can you share what I am doing wrong? - 2/26/12

    Bad
These are the same directions as on the bag & neither are helpful. I tried to make these 2x and neither worked. There is no timing given, or how hot the pan needs to be. - 6/2/10
