Ingredients

    1 teaspoon baking soda (bicarb soda)
    1 tablespoon warmed nonfat milk
    1/2 cup butter (or alternative, nutrition based on butter)
    2/3 cup sugar (or Splenda, nutrition based on sugar)
    1/2 cup warmed treacle or molasses
    2 cups wholemeal plain flour (all purpose)
    1 tablespoon ground ginger
    2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    2 teaspoons cocoa powder, unsweetened
    1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

1: Dissolve soda in warmed milk and let stand for 2 minutes
2: Cream butter and sugar
3: Add the soda, milk and warmed treacle or molasses and beat well
4: Combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, cocoa and salt in a mixing bowl. Add the creamed mixture
5: Place heaped teaspoons of mixture on a greased (with spray) or lined oven tray about 5cm apart
6: Bake in a moderate oven (180oC/350oF or 160oC fan forced) for 15-20 minutes
7: Cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Makes approximately 40 biscuits.
