I was born in Germany and developed a great love for the food. It was heartbreaking when I found out my husband needed to go on a lower sodium diet for his heart. While this dish is approx 500mg of sodium it is still good to use as a treat once in a while. And I still get to have some of the foods I grew up with.
Found this in a good Taste of Home cookbook. It was pretty good. Added a little salsa and it was tasty!
Mix all ingredients. Shape into loaf and place in pan. Bake uncovered in 350 degree oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.
This sauce freezes well, and can be used as a base for chili con carne. (Add chili powder, cumin, steak sauce to taste and 1-2 cans of red kidney beans, drained and rinsed.)
