To get a true Keema you need to use fresh chopped tomatoes, fresh chopped garlic, and fresh slivered ginger. It really makes a difference to the outcome of the dish. In the authentic recipe the ground beef is not browned, all the ingredients are simmered in water till the water evaporates. - 9/1/09

This is an ok recipe for a quick way to make a sort of keema. It is better and definately more authentic to use garlic, fresh ginger, chopped (not puree or powder), chilli, garam masala and spices rather than a ready made 'curry powder'. But its not a bad recipe though! - 8/7/09

Scrumshillyitious! I made it today in my crockpot! I used HOT curry-powder for kick. Only took 10 minutes of prep this morning-done @ 4PM. It's more like a stew or chili, but YUM-ME! After tasting it, the only thing I added was a couple Tbs of fennel seed, but one b4 cooking should do. Luv it! - 8/5/08

Made this last night. Very good alone or on rice. I doubled the spices and would cut up the potatoes a little smaller next time. I saw someone mentioned diced tomatoes instead of crushed. Will try it out. Thanks. - 7/3/09

I thought it was delicious. I didn't eat it on rice because of the potatoes already in it. I also doubled the spices and cooked it in my crockpot. I even froze individual portions and they are also delicious. Next time I think I'll make it with ground turkey, instead. - 10/4/09

I noticed a problem with your nutritional info. The recipe calls for one and a half pounds of ground sirloin but in the ingredient details you only used 20 oz, which is only 1.25 pounds. - 8/12/09

Authentic or not, I liked this casserole and have made it twice now! I also came up with a type of Naan-made-easy with Bisquick that went quite well with this!! If you'd like to try the recipe with this Keema one, look up "Bisquick Naan." - 10/4/09

AMAZING!! A very tasty blend of spices. I took some tips from the other comments, doubled spices (didn't have tumeric). I added hot pepper flakes. I used green pepper instead of peas. I only had 1 cup of tomatoes so added 1.5 TBS of tomato paste. I also boiled the potato ahead and then diced it - 11/30/08

This was awesome! DH loved it. I read some reviews and cooked it as written, I also omitted the tumeric because I didn't have any, and was still great. The following night we had it again, but this time I added cayenne pepper to kick it up a knotch, and boy it was even more terrific! Thanks! - 9/8/09

I made this last night and it was tasty! My garden is overflowing with tomatoes so I used fresh, and don't think I'd use canned in the future. I'd probably double the spices - I added liquid & couscous directly into the pot about 5 mins before serving, and the couscous soaked up a lot of the spice - 9/2/09

The only thing I would suggest to improve this very tasty recipe is to add cooked potatoes, because there is not enough juice for the potatoes to get tender in the pot.
Very different. My husband said... I smell apples. Are there apples in here. I guess it was the cinnamon. Thanks for sharing

For vegan version I used 1 package of veggie ground round, then extra potatoes and doubled the spices like others suggested. Put it in the crockpot for 5 hours on high. My family loved it, esp. my teenaged daughter. Doubled (or more) spices; added cumin/mustard powder. Used a variety of leftover frozen veggies. Made tortilla wraps w/it for lunch next day. (The ginger helps w/heartburn/gastric distress so even though it's spicy it's pretty easy to digest and enjoy.) - 9/15/09

This is delicious! However, we need to have a fact checker for these recipes. The nutrition facts say a serving is 199 calories, but there is 1.5# of beef and 6 servings. That's 4oz of beef/serving. 4oz of beef has about 350 calories. Do the math yourself! - 8/16/10

Oh I love foods using curry. Can't wait to try this recipe!! Wonder if it could also be served over quinoa? I might try that for myself and rice for family. - 9/1/09
