Ingredients

    3 cups finely shredded crisp green cabbage
    1/4 cup minced onion
    1 small carrot, shredded
    1/3 cup mayonnaise
    1 Tbsp. vinegar
    2 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. celery seed


Directions

Put cabbage, onion and carrot in a bowl.

Prepare the dressing with the remaining ingredients and stir well to dissolve the sugar. Pour over cabbage and toss lightly. Serves 6

    This was quick, easy and sooo tasty. I used celery salt (1tsp) instead of 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp celery seeds and it worked great. I will most definitely make this again. - 7/2/09

    Made mine with lite mayo. Thought it was delish. I make cuts in the carrot then use a peeler to put slivers of carrot into mine instead of grated, chopped or diced carrot. - 7/1/09

    I've always made mine w/light mayo & fat free sour cream.
    It makes it very creamy and fewer calories. I also add 1/4 cup of both red & green peppers for added crunch & extra
    veggies for those who WOULD NOT normaly eat them.
    Give it a try. It's always a big hit at all the gatherings when I bring

    isn't it one cup cabbage per serving? the cabbage "shrinks" when it stands.
    celery seed sounds interesting. caraway seed is great on cauliflower, so it makes sense that celery seed is good on cabbage.

    I got this recipe from my mother-in-law. I put mayo, vinegar and salt and pepper in mine. Using low fat mayo and not adding sugar cuts the calories down. It still tastes great and I can eat more without going over my calorie count. - 8/23/09

    I make this using light miracle whip 2 or 3 tablespoons and apple cider or rice vinegar whichever I have handy ,start with 1 tablespoon vinegar then add more as i mix and taste to get the tang that we desire . Use 2 teaspoons of sugar no matter how much vinegar i use and husband loves this . - 7/1/09

    This sounds like the coleslaw I make, but I use light mayo, white or rice vinegar, and splenda to taste instead of sugar for a very low calorie side dish. I think it tastes fine with the substitutions. - 6/8/08

    I made this for lunch and liked it more than the usual one I made before. Mine was without onion and vinegar. With those two in it made it a lot more tasty. After making it, I let it sit in the fridge for an hour and the ingredients were blended really well. - 12/14/17

    I substituted the vinegar and sugar with pickle juice, added a tablespoon of sweet pickle relish and a peeled, cubed apple. It was delicious. Just make sure to adjust your calories for the apple and pickle relish. - 5/15/10

    When I make coleslaw I use Miracle Whip instead of the vinegar, sugar and salt. I thin the dressing with water, add onion powder and celery seed and put that over the cabbages, red and white. I may add carrot next time for additional color. - 5/11/19
